Interpersonal metadiscursivity and negotiability of conversational markers in Chilean Spanish: a systemic functional analysis

Abstract
This article describes the functioning of the conversational metadiscursive markers mira/mire, oye/oiga, a ver and ¿viste? in Chilean Spanish from the Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) approach. We obtained the data from the AMERESCO Corpus. The description was based on categories of the interpersonal metafunction, considering the semantic-discursive and lexical-grammatical stratum. We have analyzed the interpersonal meanings, the integration of markers in dialogic movements, their presence in speech functions, the implication in the roles of Knowers and Actors through the NEGOTIATION system and their realization from the mood system. We can conclude that the markers contribute mainly to the negotiation of information and to the metadiscursive regulation of the interlocutors’ roles in the dialogue.Keywords:
