Abstract

The aim of this article is to present an analysis of contrastive rhetoric with the principal objective of describing macrostructural idiosyncratic characteristics of the lecture as monological oral discourse genre. This is an exploratory study conducted by triangulation of empirical data using qualitative and quantitative research methodologies from an oral corpus of lectures in Spanish and Italian. After comparing the strategies found in the samples, the results reveal that the macrostructure of the conferences analyzed share many characteristics, but also show some differences in these two related languages. In practically every lecture the four sections of the primary macrostructure are respected, however, there are some differences in the strategies used in the secondary macrostructurein both groups.
