Abstract

Transnational corporations undoubtedly represent one of the greatest challenges for the emerging new economic and social order. This paper summarizes the main trends in the expansion of transnational companies, both globally and regionally, as well as some new aspects of the capacity for negotiation and distribution of benefits between transnational corporations and the countries of the region, concentrating the analysis on the period of the last ten years (1967-1976). In short, the empirical evidence and some representative cases of links between transnational companies and Latin American countries are evaluated, reflecting a clear trend towards a greater balance of bargaining power and distribution of benefits and, therefore greater interdependence, between both parties.
