Abstract

There has always been a divergence of interests between Latin America and the United States. But today, unlike in the past, Latin American countries have a more pragmatic and realistic attitude, which allows them to reformulate their position in the world and achieve convergences. This occurs at a good time since both regions share important values of liberalization, de-ideologization and globalization of political and economic processes, which would make it possible to develop cooperation without harming their global interests. And it is that for the first time in many decades Latin America and the United States have common themes: trade, investment and debt; integration; the Pacific Rim; Europe; democracy; drugs; immigration and the environment, among others.
