Abstract

Sixty years after the creation of the United Nations, power relations have radically changed. The rules and structures of the postwar world order are no longer in tune with the new reality of the 21st century. For this reason, in 2005 the UN began a profound reform process, encompassing the organization's work in its three main areas: development, security and human rights. For the first time in a long time, a window of opportunity has opened to reform the United Nations. Unlike past efforts within the Organization that failed to advance innovative proposals for change and were unable to overcome differences, Kofi Annan's ambitious proposal, based on a previous report by a panel of personalities, has been materializing, generating hopes of that, this time, the pending aggiornamento will be carried out.
