Abstract

The discontinuous historical trajectory of interventions and research on rural youth in Chile over the last sixty years is examined in order to analyze the development of the subject in the country. It can be seen that the topic has been marked by different socio-political contexts and development strategies, and that different actors have participated in each period, showing a diversity of approaches and interests. Despite this, the country has not been able to develop a comprehensive policy on rural youth, and external visions that have excluded young people themselves from these processes have predominated. After the issue experienced great dynamism in the 1990s, the current temperate situation may lead to new reflections and perspectives that incorporate the lessons learned from the past.
